Does driving slowly reduces fuel consumption?

Drivers always disagree about how the vehicle’s speed affects fuel consumption, as a large class of drivers believes that driving at high speeds increases fuel consumption, while the other team believes that driving slowly saves fuel, so what is the correct belief?

Car experts answered this important question, saying that the belief that driving slowly saves fuel is a wrong belief, and that driving at high speeds more than 100 km / h consumes more fuel, and they added that there are specific speeds that are considered the best in fuel consumption.

Experts pointed out that there is an important factor that greatly affects fuel consumption, which is the number of engine revolutions / minute (RPM), as the pressure on the accelerator pedal raises the number of engine revolutions significantly, which causes a large amount of fuel to be pumped even at slow speeds.

Experts believe that the ideal rate of acceleration is an increase of 20 km / h every 5 seconds, that is, the acceleration gradually is better than the sudden acceleration in the rate of fuel consumption.

For example, switching between a speed of 75 km / h and 85 km / h every 18 seconds increases fuel consumption by 20%, so it is preferable to use cruise control on highways.

Driving at a speed of 120 km / h instead of a speed of 100 km / h (i.e. higher RPM) increases fuel consumption by 20%.
